US Women Gear Up for Beijing
April 23, 2008
SIG clients Lindsay Whalen, Laura Harper, and Crystal Langhorne have all been selected to participate in the six-team Good Look Beijing Tournament at the site of the 2008 Olympic games. The tournament, which kicked off April 19, is underway in Beijing. The US team, currently boasting a 3-1 record, will close out the tournament on April 26 versus Olympic host, China (8:00pm EDT).

Group A
Fenerbache defeated ESB Lille Metropole 75-61, improving their record to 3-2. Tammie Sutton Brown stuffed the stat sheets with 16pts, 9 rbs, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Cappie Pondexter recorded 16pts, 4ast, and 4stls in Fenerbahce’s victory.
CSKA Moscow defeated MKB Euroleasing, 80-75. Maria Stepanova showed a great defensive effort, with 4blks and 2stls while also adding 11pts on offense.
Group B
UMMC Ekaterinberg rolled over Halcon Avenida, 90-64, maintaining the first place spot in group B and their undefeated title.
Wisla Can-Pak captured the second place spot in Group B with a close win [66-61] over Bourges Basket. Candice Dupree had 10 points for Wisla.
Group C
Emilie Gomis put forth strong efforts in a loss to the star-laden Spartak Moscow region. Gomis added 11 points for USVO.
Group D
Teo Vilnius defeated Dynamo Moscow 78-72 improving to 3rd place in Group D. |

Group A
CSKA Moscow defeated Fenerbache, 109-69 to maintain their undefeated status and first place spot in Group A.
Group B
UMMC Ekaterinburg remained undefeated as they held off Bourges Basket 57-56, giving them the top spot in Group B.
Group C
Spartak Moscow Region triumphed over Gambrinus Brno 85-76, improving their record to 3-1, and a second place spot in Group C.
Group D
Ivea Kublina tallied a double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds) in Dynamo Moscow’s victory over USO Basket. Dynamo improves to 2-2 and hold the third spot in Group D.
SIG’s Top Performers
As women’s basketball competitions heat up around the world, several SIG clients have demonstrated their outstanding talent. This week’s top performers are:
Nicole Powell: CSKA Moscow Forward, Nicole Powell dished out five assists and shot 50% from the three point arc. Powell added16 points in CSKA’s victory over Fenerbache.
CSKA is one of three undefeated Euroleague teams and in first place in Group A. Powell is joined by several other SIG standouts including: Maria Stepanova, Olga Arteshina, Ekaternia Lisina, and Edwidge Lawson-Wade.
La’Tangela Atkinson: The Forward from South Carolina is one of the top three leading scorers in the Israeli league for Bnei Yehuda, averaging 23.8ppg over four games.
Adia Barnes: In Phard Napoli’s 80-73 victory over ESB Lille Metropole, Barnes tallied 15 points, 5 assists, and 7 rebounds, and four steals. Barnes secured the victory for Phard Napoli, giving them a three point lead on a jumper, then draining a pair of free throws to seal the deal as the clock ran down.
Cappie Pondexter: Cappie remains the leading scorer in the Euroleague for the month of November, averaging 24.3ppg for Fenerbache.
Tammy Sutton-Brown: Tammy (Fenerbache) scored 18 points and grabbed 4 rebounds Fenerbache fell to CSKA Moscow, November 28.

FIBA Africa: Malian Women's Team Against All Odds Sun Sep 30 2007 13:09:00 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time)
The Malian Women's Basketball team triumphed 63-56 over host nation, Senegal, despite a huge Senegalese fan turnout at their home court. SIG Client Nare Diawara will compete on Mali's national team in the 2008 Olympic Games.
Mwadi Mabika of Democratic Republic of Congo was among the leaders in scoring for the FIBA Africa Nations Tournament for Women, averaging 14.4ppg.

Russia ran away with a 63-59 win over France. The leading scorers in this match were SIG clients Maria Stepanova (19pts) for Russia and Emilie Gomis (16pts) for France. Other SIG clients participating in this match were Natalia Vodopyanova, Olga Arteshina, Ekaterina Demagina, Ekaterina Lisina, and Svetlana Abrosimova for the Russians.
