Training
The WNBA is a rigorous, physical,
and extremely competitive league. Women in
the league are progressively becoming more
and more athletic, quick, and strong. Each
year the WNBA grows increasingly more
challenging, and therefore exciting. Due to
this rise in talent, it is of utmost
importance that players come to training
camp ready to compete. They must be mentally
and physically tough. And they must show an
improvement from season to season.
Because the WNBA only runs from May to late
August, the off-season is critical in a
player's success in the league. At SIG, not
only do we provide our players with the
unique opportunity to play overseas in some
of the most competitive leagues outside of
U.S. soil, but we also give them the chance
to improve their skills while here at home.
In college, players have facilities and
coaches at their disposal, but this is not
the case once they graduate. The life of a
professional puts a lot more pressure on the
individual to find their own ways of
improving their game. However, SIG
understands that basketball is a learning
process that never ends, even as a pro. So
we find ways to help our players fine tune
their skills and improve on their mental
toughness.
Several times a year SIG puts together
position specific camps run by some of the
best coaches in the business. Bernie
Bickerstaff, former coach of the Washington
Bullets, Washington Wizards, Seattle
Supersonics, and Denver Nuggets, have joined
on with SIG to help with clinics and also
individual instruction. Having coached at
the highest level of men's basketball for
over 20 years, Bernie is able to help our
players maximize their abilities and excel
in the WNBA.
During these training sessions, whether they
be with a small group of other players or
individually, our players will be given the
chance to work hard and improve. They will
find themselves making their weaknesses
their strengths. And they will be ready to
come to training camp with improved
knowledge, skill, and work ethic. Training
is a vital part of a professional athlete,
and SIG provides our players with the chance
to train with the very best, if they so
choose. |
